Michigan Disability Rights Coalition

Context

The Michigan Disability Rights Coalition (MDRC) takes a cohort of organizational leaders through a curriculum around disability justice, equipping organizations with tools that ensure programs and initiatives are built equitably and consider those with disabilities.

The Lead-In Program is a hybrid year-long commitment, and offers interactive training sessions, highlighting organizational leaders who have been through the program in the past.

Michigan Disability Rights Coalition, in partnership with the Firecracker Foundation, reached out to Ourspace Creative to produce 10 hours of video content for the year-long program. Ourspace was selected because of our expertise in capturing stories, prompt development, ensuring all important themes are covered in depth, and our commitment to uplifting marginalized voices.

Strategy & Planning

For this project, we started with discovery sessions with MDRC, discussing key takeaways they wanted organization leaders to leave with and themes for the content. From there, we hosted strategy sessions with the Firecracker Foundations leadership,  delving into their areas of expertise, their story, and their experience going through the Lead-In Program.

We facilitated the scheduling of all sessions, location scouted, and developed each section covered in the 10 hours of content, each prompt/question, and then facilitated each filming session, asking questions and follow-up questions for each interview.

Execution

Ourspace produced 10 hours of video footage by developing 5 sections with specific focuses comprised of 11 video interviews. These videos included ASL and captioning on each video. Ourspace also produced two promotional videos to recruit potential participants and a 1.5-hour podcast-styled interview with the Firecracker Foundation.

We also facilitated follow-up sessions to debrief the process, experience, and outcomes with MDRC and the Firecracker Foundation.
